College of Liberal Arts
Dean's Student Advisory Board
It was the Spring of 2015. My friend Denny Wilson and I, both members of the Dean's Student Advisory Board, had the opportunity to take over the organization. After a year of mediocre accomplishments and very few students consulted Denny and I both agreed on one thing. We would be an organization that actively sought student concerns and acted for the best interest of our students. No longer would their concerns go unaddressed.

We met with Dean Kristin Sobolik who gave us all the tools to be successful. Throughout our entire year together she never once said "no," she simply said "try it this way instead." Her dedication to the students within the college as well as to the success of her Board was apparent from the moment we took over. Our concerns never fell on deaf ears and she was always eager to ensure the students' concerns would be resolved.
We not only served as conduits of information between the students of CoLA and the Dean, we served as the creators of culture within the College.

The Dean's Student Advisory Board conducted four surveys that collected over 1,000 student responses. We also created multiple programs and recognized students for their success.
Some of our programs included the CoLA Open Mic Nights at W.O.s which raised over $600 for CoLA Scholarships; the CoLA Tie-Die Event, CoLA Floats, and Flavors of CoLA which all allowed students to interact with their college; and the Dinners with the Dean, Summit of the Orgs, and Students of the Semester which all allowed students to gain a better understanding of their college and recognize them for their achievements. We completed multiple other projects throughout the year that helped to transform the lives of our students.
I am proud to have served as the President of the CoLA Dean's Student Advisory Board. If you are interested in more information about the board or potentially even applying in the future, please visit our website at https://liberal-arts.wright.edu/about/deans-student-advisory-board
