Wright State University
The best decision I ever made was to attend Wright State University.
When I graduated as the Valedictorian of Anna High School, I had a tough decision to make. Which institution would be the best for my future? I considered many schools, but ultimately chose Wright State University. I’ve never once regretted that decision. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I knew that I had not only found a place that would challenge me intellectually, but also one that I would be able to call my home.
From the faculty to the staff to the students, each and every person I came in contact with at Wright State wanted me to succeed. I received opportunities that no other institution could even pretend to offer. It was a large enough institution to have the funding to support large-scale programming and provide me with serious connections, but small enough to help me succeed and give me the personal attention I deserved. I never once felt like a number.
I worked multiple on campus jobs, such as being a Tutor, Study Coach, Resident Assistant, Head Resident Assistant, Peer Mentor, SI Leader, Scale- Up Assistant, and much more. While working full-time, I was given the opportunity to serve in multiple leadership positions. I was the President of the CoLA Dean's Student Advisory Board, the Content Committee Chairman for the ODK Leader to Leader Conference, the CEO of the President's Ambassadors, and a member of the Black Student Union and Student Honors Association. I even became the Student Body President and led the Student Government Association. I was given opportunities that I would have never imagined. I was even fortunate enough to continue playing sports. The intramural programs allowed me to continue playing football, basketball, softball, and more. I was even fortunate enough to travel around the country playing flag football. The opportunities were endless.
I challenge you to visit our beautiful campus and get to know our students. We're energized, hard working, and friendly. We care about our University and it’s surrounding community. We're elite but not elitist. We're diverse in the true meaning of the term. We aren’t boastful about exclusivity within our institution, but are proud about how many students we can include in the process. We're innovative and we challenge the status quo. We're inspired to change the world and many of us will go on to do so. If that’s something you can buy into, a mission that truly means something, then Wright State is the place for you.
